Interview with Joey from USA
Joey is a young American and just finish his college study. His first impression of Taiwan is that everything would like Mainland China and knew it has its democracy and military. His favorite food is Radish cake with egg(菜頭糕), soybean milk and pearl milk tea. His favorite place is Wulai town, New Taipei city, where I brought him to a trail called Datung Mountain trail(大桶山步道) and the hot spring. His suggestion for Taiwan is hope government can build more safe hiking trails for people or maintain the facilities of those hiking places.

I met Joey in my Canadian Joey’s place but we didn’t talk much at that time. I later brought he to the trail in Wulai and was impressed with his hiking experience. I didn’t know he love hiking that much. I also appreciate his passion for Banjo instrument and thanks for sharing the music with us.

Good Luck, Joey.

A talk with Sarah from Germany

Sarah is a lovely, smiling and easygoing German girl and studying in East Taiwan. Her passion for aboriginal cultures surprised me and gives me a reflection on our own culture. I find out that our traditional cultures are dying, and should we learn our traditional cultures from foreigners in the near future?

Let’s get back to the topic, her first impression of Taiwan is Nero. Her favorite food in Taiwan is vegetables(素食), like taro. Her favorite place here is in Sandiman(三地門) tribe’s village because people are naïve and hospitable and good weather.

About comment for better Taiwan, she hope we give the youth more free time for learning more things and thinking of their future. We put too much shit pressure on our descendant and force them to study for a long time, and teachers lose their passion because of too much classes’ preparation. “Students in Germany have less time of studying and so they have more time to looking for their likes.” She told me. Besides, we Taiwanese has a strong stereotypes of many things, like aborigines like drinking. Also, we have a narrow-mind of the world and think that English is the only foreign language and foreigners only speak it.
